International Poker Trends: Germany as a Case Study

While poker has been a big deal in the US and in the UK for quite some time now, most countries in Europe have taken longer to embrace poker and other casino games as a mainstream attractions within the diverse online entertainment world.

We are currently on the brink of a new era, in which new emerging markets are focusing much of the online gaming industry’s attention, and countries like Germany (and also Spain to some extent) have bumped to the of the list as one of the hottest emerging markets in the European online gaming frontier. This has led to the development of many German casino sites and German language poker platforms. Sites like Windows Casino Germany and others, which until recently were relatively anonymous, have now become a key destinations for German poker players, who used to be few and scarce, and play mostly at major American and British poker sites.

The rapid growth in the volume of Online poker ohne download in Germany can be attributed to a number of factors.  Alongside the worldwide popularity of online poker growing continuously, day by day the Web is transforming into a global village, with national boundaries becoming less prominent and popular online trends trickling into the awareness of international markets much quicker than they have in the past (the popularity of the iPhone is just one quick example.)  In addition, the international success of a number of top German poker players, like Sebastian Ruthenberg, Katja Thater, and even Boris Becker (who made a name for himself as poker player after retiring from playing professional tennis), has increased the game’s popularity among German players, as well as creating a fresh hype around poker which has attracted a whole new crowd of new players.

According to Deutsche Welle, an estimated 290,000 to 350,000 Germans play poker online regularly, spending over 1.5 million Euros (per year.)  These numbers are only predicted to grow as online casinos put more effort and resources into marketing in German speaking countries.  While the future looks bright for the online casino industry in Germany, legislation issues hinder this booming industry’s appeal to investors, and long term growth and stability still depend, to a large extent, on proper regulation being implemented.
